Finding affordable accommodation in Tokyo can be challenging, given the city’s notoriously high living costs. One option that often proves to be more budget-friendly but also more comfortable is Airbnb. This platform provides a wide range of choices for travellers seeking a home away from home in Japan’s bustling capital.
Two Stories Accommodation in Tokyo
In March 2023, we opted for an Airbnb experience in Tokyo, selecting a pair of adjacent apartments perfect for our nine guests. These accommodations were in Taito City, a lively and attractive area near Ueno Station known for its cultural attractions and convenient transportation options.
The apartments we chose boasted a traditional Japanese house design, offering a refreshing contrast to the surrounding trendy neighbourhood. Each two-story apartment featured a ground-floor living area with a kitchenette, washing machine, toilet, and bathroom. Meanwhile, the upper floor housed two bedrooms and an additional toilet, ensuring ample space and privacy for all guests.
Ueno Station and Asakusa Nearby
One of the standout aspects of this residential estate was its excellent connection to Ueno Station, which made it easy for us to explore many of Tokyo’s most popular attractions. As an added bonus, the famous Asakusa district was just a 15-minute walk away, allowing us to experience this historic area on foot.
Playground & Family Mart
Another notable feature of the neighbourhood was the presence of a large children’s playground nearby, making it an ideal choice for families with kids. This spacious play area provided a safe and enjoyable space for children to have fun and burn off energy during our stay in Tokyo.
We were pleased to find a Family Mart convenience store just down the road from the apartments for our day-to-day needs. This made it easy to grab snacks, drinks, and other essentials at any time during our stay.
Toilets and Bathrooms
When searching for accommodation in Japan, one must be aware of one crucial point: Japanese homes and apartments often differentiate between toilets and bathrooms, as they are typically designed as separate facilities. This cultural norm may surprise some travellers, so it’s essential to consider this detail when booking your accommodations in the country.
A Great Host
In conclusion, AirBnB can provide an affordable and comfortable alternative to traditional hotels when visiting Tokyo. With a wide range of options available, including entire apartments like the ones we rented in Taito City, finding a unique and memorable place to stay during your Japanese adventure is possible.
We had a very great host. His name is Airi, and he is very responsive and very accommodating. You can check out his apartment here.
[…] Our accommodation was beautiful, and the host kindly let us check in early. After resting, we set out for Asakusa, enjoying the pleasant weather, snacks, and lunch. Asakusa delighted the children with its variety of snacks, sights, and even an animal café where they played with rabbits and hedgehogs. […]
