The warmth of Japanese Hospitality
The Japanese are renowned for their warm hospitality and genuine care towards visitors, making them feel at home in a foreign land. As a recent traveller to Tokyo in March 2023, I had the privilege of experiencing this firsthand in various situations. From offering directions to lending a helping hand, the kindness of the Japanese people left a lasting impression on my family and me.
Lost in Shinjuku
While navigating the lively streets of Shinjuku, my family and I found ourselves lost and slightly overwhelmed. A compassionate young mother observed our plight and graciously provided clear directions. She went above and beyond to ensure we found our way, an act of kindness we hadn’t encountered in many other countries.
Disneysea Kindness
We were late for the “Believe! Sea of Dreams” show at DisneySea and found ourselves stuck behind a large crowd. Our child was upset and unable to see the performance. A thoughtful young girl offered to carry him on her shoulders to provide a better view. When we expressed concern about his weight, she even suggested piggybacking him. Her considerate gesture exemplified the level of care the Japanese extend to visitors.
Orderly Queues
One striking aspect of Japanese culture is the orderly manner in which people form lines. Even without clear markings, individuals naturally maintain an organized queue without line-cutting or pushing. This civility contrasts sharply with the chaotic lines we’ve encountered in other countries.
Taxi Assistance
After visiting the TeamLab Planets exhibit, we searched for a taxi to return to our hotel. A taxi driver, who was already booked, informed us that he couldn’t provide a ride. Nonetheless, he went out of his way to help us find another taxi, further illustrating the hospitable nature of the Japanese people.
Appreciate their Hospitality
The exceptional hospitality and care shown by the Japanese towards visitors is truly something to be experienced. The numerous acts of kindness we encountered during our trip made us feel incredibly welcome and left an indelible mark on our hearts. If you have the chance to visit Japan, remember to appreciate and embrace the warmth and generosity of its people.
